Employability Boot Camp
91% of UCFB's 2014 graduates are in employment
As UCFB students reach the final stages of their undergraduate degree programmes, all third years receive the unique opportunity to take part in an Employability Boot Camp organised by UCFB’s Employability and Enrichment team. The students take part in a series of tasks designed to help them embark on the next chapter of their lives, and into the world of work. The Employability Boot Camp is part of a dedicated service to ensure that UCFB students graduate with the greatest possibility of success within the sports industry.
On day one of the Boot Camp, students are placed in a corporate environment as owners of the unique organisation, From Pitch to Boardroom (FPTB), teach them how to demonstrate resilience, tenacity and realism in the boardroom. By placing themselves in real life scenarios, the final year students are able to identify their strengths and weaknesses and fully prepare for their imminent entrance to the working world within sport. On the second day, Gradcore arrive to help students refine their employability strategy. They teach the students that networking and being well read and up-to-date on industry news and topics is of paramount importance in the employment environment.
Towards the end of the week, students are encouraged to put what they have learnt into practice and are given the unparalleled opportunity to apply for exclusive work placements and full time positions within the sports industry.
UCFB Burnley BA (Hons) Football Business & Marketing student, Elly Humphries, commented on the 2015 employability boot camp:
“This week has been extremely helpful as we have learned a variety of skills, such as how to present yourself in an interview and the appropriate use of body language. We have also learned how to present ourselves across social media. Employers are constantly checking candidates’ social media activity so it’s important to have a positive digital footprint. I feel that this week has really demonstrated how I can stand out when going into the world of work and I am confident that I will secure a fantastic job in the near future.”
