Future Women in Football
At UCFB we aim to develop the personal and professional abilities of our students as well as recognise the importance of women in sport.
Through the support of our ambassadors, Kelly Simmons, MBE (FA Director of the National Game and Women’s Football and Member of the UCFB Advisory Board), Sue Smith (TV sports pundit for Sky Sports and ESPN) and Rachel Brown-Finnis (former Everton and England Goalkeeper and UCFB’s Sports Industry Liaison), our female students are mentored during their three years of study. These mentors have considerable ‘on-field’ and ‘off-field’ experience and can therefore provide our students with a 360 degree perspective of the industry.
Future Women in Football (FWIF)
Through our close association with the Women in Football group and their partner organisation Women in Sport, UCFB has created the Future Women in Football committee, led by Rachel Brown-Finnis. The Future Women in Football committee consists of a group of female UCFB students at both of our campuses. Our students are then mentored by the Women in Football members and have unique opportunities to work alongside their board and members, which includes the likes of Joyce Cook, OBE (Managing Director of the Centre for Access to Football in Europe), Anna Kessel (Sports Writer at The Guardian and The Observer) and Ruth Shaw (Chief Executive of the Sports Grounds Safety Authority).
UCFB hosts regular Future Women in Football events in order to stimulate discussion and debate between influential figures within the football business and sports industries. These events also provide opportunities for UCFB students to network with and learn from the leading female professionals.
Women in Football Business Forum
In addition to creating and running the Future Women in Football committee, UCFB also hosts an annual Women in Football Business Forum at both Turf Moor and Wembley Stadium campuses. These forums are opportunities for young women interested in a career in the football business to hear from the ‘best in class’ who are currently working in finance, marketing or media roles within the industry. Previous keynote speakers have included Jacqui Oatley (BBC Sports Presenter and first ever female commentator), Susan Black (Director of Communications at Liverpool FC) and Samantha Gordon (Director of Finance at Norwich City FC) to name just a few of the many leading professionals working in high profile senior roles. The Women in Football Business Forums are open to UCFB students and young women interested in joining UCFB.
