Girls’ Academy launched at UCFB Burnley for aspiring footballers
Year 11 girls are being encouraged to apply for a new scheme at UCFB Burnley that will enable them to combine their A Level studies and football playing skills at Turf Moor.
Girls’ Academy, delivered in partnership with Burnley FC in the Community and Nelson and Colne College, is due to kick off in September for girls aged 16-18, and will mirror the boys’ Shadow Youth Team programme.
As part of the new programme, students will receive eight hours of dedicated coaching per week from qualified Burnley FC in the Community coaches, regular fixtures and the opportunity to play for Burnley Ladies FC. Additionally, by studying from a wide range of A Level or BTEC programmes alongside their playing, students will also give themselves a route into higher education and scholarship opportunities in America.
With six 30 seater classrooms overlooking the Turf Moor pitch, as well as a 150-seater auditorium and a library, the facilities available at UCFB Burnley are an inspiring place for students to learn and shape their future.
This is the first time Burnley FC in the Community, UCFB and Nelson and Colne College have offered such a programme to female players, with an emphasis on both enhancing technical skills and ability whilst supporting educational and career development.
Trials for the Girls’ Academy take place in February and March.
