QPR host UCFB Wembley at Loftus Road
Championship side QPR hosted UCFB Wembley students recently to inspire the next generation of media professionals.
BA (Hons) Football Business & Media students spent a day at Loftus Road, where they were given an insight into what life is like working in the industry with talks from members of QPR’s media team.
Head of media and communications, Ian Taylor, multimedia manager, Andy Watkins, and webmaster, David Scriven, spoke in-depth about their roles covering key areas such as public relations, social media and broadcasting including the setup of QPR’s worldwide streaming service, QPR+.
Neil Silver, Head of Employment & Enrichment at UCFB, said: “The opportunity for UCFB students to spend time studying inside the stadium of a Championship club, alongside staff from QPR’s media team, gives them a definite edge in their degree programme.”
He added: “We are hugely grateful to QPR for facilitating these occasions because the experience gained by UCFB students is unrivalled, and we look forward to this becoming a regular event, alongside the other projects we already undertake with this fantastic football club.”
QPR’s Watkins added: “UCFB students have produced quality video content which has been a welcome addition to our coverage of QPR’s under-18s and Ladies team. Covering under-23s games live at Loftus Road, including interviews, has also provided useful media training for our Academy players whilst hopefully whetting the students’ appetite for working in broadcast media.”
