Not only is UCFB student Raven Chapman busy studying for her BA (Hons) Multimedia Sports Journalism degree, she also has the Olympic and Commonwealth Games in her sights.

Raven is a champion boxer and the current number one in England in her featherweight category. In her short but impressive career so far, Raven has been English national champion twice and reached the quarter-finals of the European Championships in 2016.

The next few years could see Raven excel at her sport even further. Later this year she hopes to win her third national title, which could land her a spot in the England team at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia. Then there’s the Tokyo Olympics in 2020 – Raven hopes her weight category will be added in time for the competition, giving her the biggest goal of all to work towards.

Thanks to her sporting ability, Raven, who studies at UCFB Wembley in and around Wembley Stadium, was awarded the Elite Performance scholarship at UCFB when she arrived at the institution in 2016. The scholarship enabled her to receive £3,000 towards her tuition fees, and was awarded due to her competing in national competition.

UCFB is able to offer a number of unique scholarship opportunities to students of all abilities across a number of disciplines. Scholarships are available based on academic and sporting achievements, as well as social mobility, among other categories.

Now mixing her academic studies with a promising boxing career, Raven is having to carefully juggle her commitments.

She said: “I’ve really enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone to do and learn something completely different to anything I’ve done before. UCFB is such a unique environment to do it in as well.”

Raven also gave advice to those looking to study at UCFB, in particular those thinking of applying for one of UCFB’s scholarships. She added: “I’d say if there’s something you really want to do and you’ve seen it here, then go for it. If it’s something that you believe you can achieve and you have the determination and drive to go for it then you will succeed in it.”
