Title success for UCFB sports teams
It’s been a busy few weeks for UCFB’s sports teams in London and Manchester. With teams fighting for titles and trophies in a number of BUCS leagues, here’s the latest round-up of what’s been happening…
UCFB Etihad Campus
Women’s 1st team, Northern 3A league
The UCFB Women’s 1st team won their BUCS league with a game to spare, and are currently undefeated. A 2-1 win over University of Liverpool 2nd meant that the team went into their game away at University of Chester 1st knowing a draw would be enough to claim the title. A dramatic 1-1 draw clinched the league.
Men’s 1st team, Northern 3A league
Following a 5-1 win at home to title rivals Bangor University 1st, UCFB now hold their destiny in their own hands with two games of the season to play. Two home wins against MMU 1st (13th March) and University of Manchester 2nd (20th March) will be enough to claim the title, so students and staff are encouraged to make their way to the Regional Arena at 2pm for both games to cheer on the lads.
Men’s 2nd team, Northern 5C league
The 2nd team are also in charge of their own destiny, and know that victory in their final two games will clinch the league title. On Wednesday 13th March, they travel to MMU 5th, currently below UCFB in third place, then finish their season a week later on 20th March at table toppers University of Bolton 1st.
Men’s 1st team, Northern 4A league
There’s also a chance of league success in futsal for the men’s team following two huge results. A 3-0 win over Keele University 1st and a hard fought 4-3 win against University of Chester means that if UCFB beat University of Liverpool 2nd on Saturday 16th March by three goals the title is theirs.
Women’s 1st team, South Eastern 3A league
The girls currently top their league with eight win from eight knowing only one point from their final two games will be enough to win the title. Their most recent results have included a 5-0 away win at Reading University 1st and a 4-0 home victory over Royal Holloway University of London 1st.
Men’s 1st team, South Eastern 4D league
Like their female counterparts, the men top their league with eight wins from eight having already secured the league title for the third season in a row. A 4-1 win away at Goldsmiths University of London 1st confirmed another victorious season.
Men’s 2nd team, South Eastern 6C league
The 2s sit second in the league with one game left to play, and although they’re not in a position to win the league a victory over Roehampton University 2nd next Wednesday will clinch second place.
Men’s 3rd, South Eastern 7C league
The guys currently top their league and need just a point to secure the title following a 7-1 victory away at Regent’s University London 1st this week. They’ll have two chances to collect the point they need later this month away at University of Westminster 2nd and University for the Creative Arts Surrey 1st.
Men’s 1st, South Eastern 7A league
With four games left to play, the team currently sit second in the league knowing eight points from their final fixtures will clinch the league title. The lads have missed the chance to do the double following a 17-7 loss to London South Bank 2nd in the conference cup final.
Women’s 1st, South Eastern 11A league
In their debut BUCS season the women currently sit second in their league with three games left to play. Four points from those games will be enough to secure the runners-up spot.
Men’s 1st team, South Eastern 5A league
Like their netball counterparts, the basketball team are also competing in their first BUCS season. The team finished bottom of their league, but had a memorable end to the season when they took on Queen Mary 2nd at the Copper Box Arena, one of the venues of the 2012 London Olympic Games.
