UCFB Etihad Campus student Jessica Ostle was awarded the She Kicks Scholarship when she began her BA (Hons) Football Business & Finance programme. As part of the scholarship, Jessica was able to spend time at the offices of one of the UK’s leading magazines dedicated to women’s football. Here, she explains what she got up to and her plans for the future…

This internship has given me an insight into the women’s game as well as how the football business is run, which will ultimately help me in the future. When I finish my degree, I’d like to work within a professional football club and be part of the team that helps deal with player transfers and sponsorships. I have a huge passion for football and would love to be part of the business side of the industry.

During the week-long internship I undertook various tasks, including researching various contacts from within the industry and looking for manufacturers who could produce branded items to be sold on the She Kicks website. I also put together some player fact files for future issues of the magazine, transcribed an interview and researched pictures that can be used for various stories over the next few issues.

Overall, I enjoyed my internship with She Kicks and learnt a lot more about my favourite sport, as well as undertaking various tasks to give me the experience to help me with my future career within the football industry. The team at She Kicks were very friendly and helpful and I’m looking forward to working with them again on other opportunities in the future as part of my scholarship.

I would recommend for female students at UCFB who enjoy football to apply for this scholarship; it’s an excellent opportunity to work with a brilliant team and gain valuable experience. Thank you to the She Kicks team for letting me be part of it and I look forward to many more opportunities in the future.

The She Kicks Scholarship is offered in partnership with She Kicks magazine, and is open to an outstanding female applicant who can demonstrate that a UCFB degree can assist them with their career ambitions. Click here to find out more about the initiative and other UCFB scholarships.
