Coaching in Orlando – Sam’s Dream Summer

Day 1

My journey to Orlando started with a very early train from Stevenage to Manchester before my flight at 1.45pm. Everything went smoothly with the check in, finding which gate I needed to go to and grabbing a bite to eat. I was delighted to be guided upstairs to my seat which was in the premium economy section. Complimentary food and drink for the 9 hour flight along with the choice of 50+ films seemed pretty good to me! I arrived...

Robert’s Placement with IMG at The 2014 Open Championship

During the month of July I was given the opportunity to work with IMG Golf at the 143rd Open Championship held at Royal Liverpool Golf Course in Hoylake. IMG has consistently managed the world’s best golfers, both male and female, who have won over 131 majors between them. Corporations pair up with IMG to connect with golf’s highly desirable demographics through sponsorship and events so I saw this as a fantastic opportunity to develop my skills at an incredible sporting venue.

Ben’s Placement with the Orlando City Soccer Club Marketing Department

Day 1

I was up bright and early at 4am to make my way to Manchester airport for the 11am flight to Orlando and I couldn’t wait to get started. Everything at the check-in went smoothly so I had a bite to eat before heading to the departure lounge where I found Hal who would also be interning in the marketing department at Orlando City for the next few weeks.

9 hours and three movies later and we had arrived in the USA. Stepping out of the airport...

Michael’s Summer with Challenger Sports

Week 1 – Federalsburg, Maryland

This was the first camp of my summer and the first time I’d be leading sessions on my own. I was on a three man camp, with one first year coach as well as a returner. While they took the older kids, I was coaching two children aged 3 and 4 for an hour and a half every day.

They loved playing duck-duck-goose and adding in their own animals kept them laughing! As a coach, you will...

Luke’s Summer with UKLC

My journey to Chester from Burnley started with a 6.30am train. I was filled with a sense of nervousness but also excitement as I began my summer with UKLC.

I arrived around lunchtime and it was straight into the induction process where I needed to show my sporting qualifications as well as my Full First Aid Certificate.

I was introduced to my centre manager and my colleagues as we all shared our personal experiences within the sports, education and teaching industry.

This was...

Hal’s Week on the ESPN FC Newsdesk

My placement at ESPN began with a long train journey South to Nottingham, where I spent the week travelling to and from ESPN’s offices in Hammersmith, London.

Day 1

My first day of the placement began at 7am on the Monday as I jumped aboard a train full of people rushing to work. After surviving the intense heat of the Underground, I arrived at ESPN and was introduced to ESPNFC Assistant Editor Mark Lomas. I worked closely with him and his colleagues...

Chloe’s Baltimore Coaching Experience

Upon arriving in Baltimore for week 1 of my coaching placement, I met my first coaching group and we drove out towards Chesapeake, VA which isn’t far from the infamous Virginia beach. It took us just over 4 hours to get there: what a way to get my first experience of driving in America!

We arrived at the camp at 6pm on the Sunday evening and met with our new host families and the camp coordinator to organise the upcoming week.

Jade – Marketing at the Rugby World Cup

It’s not too often someone can say that they helped in the running of a World Cup…

…but I am one of those fortunate enough not only to have been involved in the running of a World Cup, but also attend as a spectator.

The Rugby League World Cup is an international rugby tournament hosted by a different nation every four years. Over its 60 year history, 19 teams have competed to win the famous trophy and in 2013, the event was...

My moment in the Media…

Since the start of February I have been working as an intern in the media department of Burnley Football Club.

My role involves working in the office during the week and writing football related articles, mainly stories for the website and match day programme. This includes interviewing managers, players, executives – some of which to camera. I also work on all home match days and travel to some of the away games where I write live match reports and post-match reaction...
