I have just started my third year studying Football Business and Media at the Burnley campus. I was the Chief Youth Website Developer, working in the Media Department of Bury FC from June until September. I was based in the Press Office, working alongside the Press Officer.

Responsibilities

Day-to-Day I worked beneath the club director, developing the club’s Youth/Academy Website; this included putting my own ideas onto the website, which also involved working with the commercial department to implement sponsorship for players.

During the summer I managed to gain some work experience with Rugby Union side Saracens in their Finance department. At Saracens’ new stadium, Allianz Park I met the finance director Mitesh Velani.

The first morning was spent meeting the rest of the finance team as well as people from all of the other departments. It is a very relaxed and friendly environment in the office with everyone making me feel welcome. A tour of the stadium and visit to the club store

After my first year as a Football Business and Finance Degree student at UCFB and a successful initial placement at Aon, I was given the opportunity to return to the organisation for an internship this summer.

Having almost finished my month of work experience here, my role as a Placement Broker within the Sports, Recreation and Entertainment department has given me a huge insight into the insurance market.

During my first year as a Football Business and Marketing student I sent my CV and a cover letter to the Commercial Director at Millwall Football Club (the club I support).

Following my application, the Commercial Director contacted me with the opportunity of work experience in the marketing department throughout the summer.

Responsibilities

My role within the department involved assisting with matchday and non-matchday marketing. This included responsibilities such as designing and implementing advertising across several media platforms.

After an historic victory over Widnes Vikings to send them to their first Challenge Cup Final since 1992; Castleford Tigers Rugby League Club are going to Wembley to play West Yorkshire Rivals Leeds Rhinos for one of the most coveted trophies in Rugby League: the Tetley’s Challenge Cup. I was given the opportunity to work for Castleford Tigers to see how a professional Rugby League club deals with getting into a cup final.

Day One – Monday 11th August

When I arrived

I was really excited about the opportunity to intern with Orlando City’s marketing department. I also didn’t know what to expect from the trip as I had never been to the United States before.

I must admit I was a bit reticent about the 9-hour plane journey from Manchester to Orlando, but in the end I was pleased with the journey as it was comfortable, had plenty of entertainment options and regular food & drink service.

Football Business and Finance student Leah Jakeman secured work experience with HN Sports Agency over the summer. She has been working under the MD FIFA Licensed Agent Hayden Evans, who has been representing footballers since 1992.

HN Sports are one of the UK’s top sports agencies. They have negotiated contracts at all levels; from Premier League contracts for England Internationals to first Pro Contracts for young scholars.
