Due to internal promotion we require a reliable, self-motivated and customer focused person, with good interpersonal and communication skills to join our team at UCFB Burnley. You will provide an efficient and welcoming service to our students, assist with the finding, issuing and returning books and maintain an environment that is conducive to study.
The successful candidate will have a commitment to excellent customer service, good interpersonal skills, a high level of IT literacy and will also have the ability to cope with the physical demands of the job such as lifting and carrying books. Experience in library services is essential in a similar setting and the potholder will ideally hold a qualification in librarianship or similar.
Job Description
The main role of the Assistant Librarian is to support the Library Services Manager who sits across both UCFB Campus in the organisation and development of library services at UCFB, and to ensure the delivery of high quality services to students, staff and visitors.
Responsibilities include:
- Answering a range of enquiries from both staff and students, including guidance using the library catalogue, electronic resources and basic IT use;
- Dealing with any other enquiries received in person, by telephone, online chat, or via email;
- Contributing to the upkeep of a tidy and well-maintained library space;
- Helping to ensure appropriate study environments through the application of library policies;
- Delivering circulation services including the issue and return of library items, creating and amending borrower records, and handling payments for overdue/lost items;
- Processing new books and other items, and maintaining library materials and collections;
- Providing individual academic study support to students, including help with referencing, exam skills, structuring essays and using online resources;
- Contributing to student induction programmes, guides, tours and any other activities associated with promoting the library and its services;
- Providing training seminars to both students and staff about effective use of library services and electronic resources;
- Contributing to the development of effective relationships with academic staff regarding the provision and development of information services;
- Participating in staff meetings, and attending staff development and training events;
- Contributing to collection management and development, as required;
- Communicating with all members of the academic department and student services team, ensuring that students are provided with the highest level of student care;
- Taking part in CPD activities, and generally staying aware of developments in the field of library and information work.
